For a change we will continue the Friday Series over the summer as well as our regular piano jazz from vocalist/pianist Julie Lewis.
We also have a special pre-Christmas performance from Israeli born saxophonist Gilad Atzmon

To kick the year off we welcome back Florida born Alfred “Pee Wee” Ellis. After a musical education that included lessons from Sonny Rollins, Ellis joined The James Brown Revue in 1965. Whilst with Brown he was his musical director and co-wrote and arranged “Cold Sweat” and “Say it Loud (I’m Black and I’m Proud)”. Now a Somerset resident, Ellis has continued to perform in various styles and situations including a reunited JB Horns, with Van Morrison and most recently with Ginger Baker.

Liane Carroll returns for a Valentine’s treat with her unique brand of hard-swinging, witty and, at times, emotionally frank vocal jazz. Liane Carroll’s career has spanned 25 years and her repertoire has ranged from the great American songbook to Carole King and Tom Waits. She has performed at Ronnie Scott’s, the Royal Albert Hall and Glastonbury.

Ian Shaw is rightly hailed as one of the world’s leading male jazz vocalists. His intimate, conversational delivery and his self-deprecating humour make him a natural fit for small venues such as the Jazz Cafe. His many recordings have included collaborations with American jazz piano legend Cedar Walton, a homage to Joni Mitchell as well as many of his own compositions. Ian is a regular visitor to the Jazz Café and has a loyal following.

Jazz vocalist, songwriter, educator and poet Deelee Dube has been causing a big stir on the London jazz scene over the last few years. A winner of the prestigious Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Jazz Prize and now a Concorde Jazz recording artist, Deelee Dube is now touring worldwide and has developed a close working relationship with saxophonist Renato D’Aello.
Reviewing her appearance at the legendary 606 Club, The Daily Telegraph admired “…the dark “baritone” quality…” and the “deep grainy power of her voice”

For her second visit of the year we welcome back Liane Carroll. She has now produced a body of recorded work that has secured her position as the queen of British jazz. Her intensely musical intelligence and the emotional frankness of her delivery, her ability to inhabit the spirit of every song she sings and also her easy wit and charm ensure that every Liane Carroll performance is an event.

Italian-born Renato D’Aiello is another performer who has made several welcome appearances at the Jazz Café. A graduate of the Berklee School of Music where he was mentored by Steve Grossman and Tony Scott, Renato D’Aello toured the world with Art Farmer before settling in London in 1999. He is now a major presence on the UK jazz scene as an educator and regular performer at Ronnie Scott’s. This year he joins Andy Urquhart’s The Sound of Blue Note for a celebration of the music of Horace Silver
