Tony Kofi (Saxophone)

Nottingham born Tony Kofi, a graduate of Berklee College of music, where he studied under Jazz Messenger Billy Pierce, has been a progressive force in British jazz where he has performed with the Jazz Warriors, Julian Joseph, Courtney Pine, US-3 and David Murray’s Big Band. His more recent projects have included a Thelonious Monk tribute (“All is Know”) and an organ trio (“Future Passed”). He has toured and recorded with Britain’s most prolific collaborator Alan Barnes and he continues to explore the jazz tradition without falling back on clichés or losing his individual, sometime anguished and romantic sound.

“…His improvising has an arrestingly raw power, and the slow quiver of his ballad-playing [could]grace any classic straight-ahead session by the legends…” John Fordham, the Guardian

Tony Kofi will be performing with The Andy Urquhart Quartet
